I stopped feeding the birds and the rats went elsewhere, it was a pleasant 4Pm sitting in the backyard when I spied a rat in broad daylight running on the phone lines that persuaded me and I loved my birds, watching and hearing them, but..........

Hi,
I am not sure if my experience would help in this situation, but I, too, had
rats outside. I was firmly advised not to use poison because it is a
contamination of the environment (another animal eats poisoned rat and it
goes on...). However, I got an excellent advise from a local2me member. The
lady suggested cleaning the ivy and other debris in which rats live. I did
and it worked beautifully. Not only I have a much neater looking backyard, I
haven't seen one rat since then. Also not leaving any food outside helps.
Good luck,
Vera.
